David Moyes has been keen to bring West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek with him to Merseyside.

The Scotsman has been pushing to sign the Czech midfielder, who played under him at the London Stadium, with the Hammers believed to be willing to consider an offer in the region of £15million.

Several first-team players are out of contract at Everton this summer, meaning Moyes and Co. may need to do plenty of work in the transfer market.

The Friedkin Group are expected to back the 62-year-old in the transfer market, with the hope that he can continue to progress the team and lift them up into the top half of the table next term.

Everton are now more likely to sign Sean Longstaff than Soucek

Everton’s interest in Soucek has been well-publicised over the last few weeks, but it now appears as though they will turn their attention towards another potential midfield target.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle future is thought to be uncertain, and both the Toffees and newly-promoted Leeds are ready to pounce, according to GiveMeSport (5 June).

The 27-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract imminently and could be available for a cut-price fee, with the Magpies wanting to avoid losing him for free.

The midfielder has been forced to play a bit-part role at his boyhood club this season, but Newcastle are understood to be holding some reservations about moving him on because he would count towards their club-trained quota as part of their Champions League squad registration.

Everton have not yet made an approach for Soucek, despite Moyes’ admiration of the 30-year-old, making a potential deal for Longstaff far more likely at this moment in time.

Longstaff could be a good signing for Everton

Moyes’ fondness for Soucek is understandable considering he was such a key performer during the Scottish boss’ stint in East London, but at this moment in time, Longstaff could provide a more sensible option.

The Geordie is three years younger than the Hammers man, and is capable of bringing a level of energy that can be hugely important to a Premier League midfield.

Considering that Abdoulaye Doucoure is set to move on from Everton this summer, Longstaff could be the ideal fit to replace the skillset of the Mali international.

He is a physical and combative presence in the middle of the park, but is also capable of breaking forward and contributing goals and assists from the edge of the box.

His attitude is admired behind the scenes at St James’ Park, and when you add that mental strength to his ability as a player, he could be the ideal man to help Moyes drive standards at Bramley-Moore next season.
