The NBA may adopt a “USA versus the World” format for the 2026 All-Star Game. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver appeared on FS1’s Breakfast Ball this morning to discuss the league and its health. When asked about the All-Star Game, a source of controversy thanks to weak performances in recent years, Silver indicated that copying the relatively-successful NHL format of domestic players versus international was under consideration. Silver cited the 2026 Winter Olympics as a point of synergy, heightening patriotic leanings and an interest in international competition.
“The very day we’re on, the lead-in will be Winter Olympic events. And then coming out of the All-Star Game — which is now in the afternoon instead of the evening — will be more Winter Olympic events. What better time to feature USA vs. the world?”
The league has a new broadcast rights deal with NBC. That network also carries Olympics coverage in the United States.
