PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers are not worried about the team going out and getting another weapon, especially after the Brandon Aiyuk saga last year.
New wide receiver Robert Woods says the rest of the players have a job to earn, but they can not focus on what the team wants to do above them.
“We look at the plays, we come out here and practice, and whoever’s at practice, that’s who we go against, and whoever’s on our team, we welcome them. We don’t look at who’s coming in, who they’re bringing in for working hours. It doesn’t matter. It’s offseason. It’s part of the game. Guys want to come and go. Omar’s trying to build the best roster he can, and that’s building guys, challenging guys, and making the room always competitive. It’s part of the game, I feel like. At this point in my career, I don’t look at that. Hopefully these young guys are not looking at it either. We’ve got a job to earn, and we come out here and do our job,” Woods says.
Calvin Austin III, who was here during the entire saga and had a breakout season in 2024, says the receivers almost laugh at the rumors now, especially after nothing happened last year until the trade deadline.
“After dealing with what we did last year, so much speculation nothing is gonna be as extreme as that in my opinion,” Austin said.
Gabe Davis is in on Thursday for a visit with the team, and others have tossed around trade candidates and other free agents, such as Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen. With many questions left over a month until training camp, the Steelers receivers will continue to work rather than wallow at what the team might do.
