Aston Villa have the chance to add some more firepower to their attacking options this summer
Aston Villa finished 6th in the Premier League table last season. They fell short of the Champions League on goal difference in the end. Nevertheless, they have secured their place in the Europa League for the next campaign.
Unai Emery has done an impressive job since his move to Villa Park back in 2022. He has transformed the club’s fortunes on the pitch and they have become a force to be reckoned with in the top flight. The Spaniard has managed the likes of PSG, Arsenal and Villarreal in the past, among others.
Aston Villa eye swoop for Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri
According to Turkish news outlet Milliyet (via Sport Witness), Aston Villa could be ‘ready’ to ‘offer’ a bid for Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri. The Morocco international, who has made 80 caps for his country to date, has been on Monchi’s radar in the past. He only joined his current club last year but is already being linked with an exit just 12 months on.
En-Nesyri, 28, scored 30 goals in 52 games in all competitions for the Turkish Super Lig giants in all competitions, 20 of which came in the league. The Istanbul outfit could now face a battle to keep hold of him though. They missed out on the title to rivals Galatasaray last term.
Prior to his move to Turkey, he spent four-and-a-half years at Sevilla. He was a hit during his days in La Liga and found the net on 73 occasions in 196 outings. The forward has also had spells in the past at Malaga and Leganes.
Would Youssef En-Nesyri suit Aston Villa?
Aston Villa could see En-Nesyri as someone to bolster their forward options. If he joined, he would add more firepower to their attacking ranks. In addition, he could battle it out with Ollie Watkins for a place in the starting XI.
He has scored goals in both Spain and Turkey now and has proved that he knows where the back of the net is. The one issue with him is the fact that he has never played in England before. As with any player from abroad, Villa would have to be patient with him whilst he adapted to life in a new country if they signed him.
After joining Fenerbahce, he said: “Before coming to Fenerbahce, I spoke with some players. They told me about the greatness of Fenerbahce and how they always want to win. Everything will be great. If I wasn’t happy to be at Fenerbahce, I wouldn’t have come. I will give my best on the pitch every day."
He added: “Many teams were interested in me, but coming to Fenerbahce was important. Before coming, I spoke with Ali Koc, Jose Mourinho, and Mario Branco. The process took a bit, but I’m here now. I will give everything on the pitch. Some players told me that Fenerbahce is a huge club and always aims to win, which I really liked. After discussing with my family and agent, [I made my decision]."
