Pablo Torres has spoken out about his lack of minutes at Barcelona and admitted he’s frustrated at life on the bench under Hansi Flick.
The midfielder only made 14 appearances in all competitions last season for Barcelona, although when he did play he generally did well.
Torre has now told Diario Sport that he feels like he deserved more game time than he was granted.
“I think I could have played many more minutes, I think I earned them. There was a lot of competition and it was difficult to get in, but I think that also on that part it was not fair and I told him [Flick] so in a talk I had with him,” he explained.
“These are things that the coach chooses, it’s true that there were no injuries and so it’s also very difficult for him to choose. I respect their decisions, but many times I have not understood them.”
One of Torre’s appearances came when Gavi told Flick to bring him on against Valencia, and Torre says he was grateful to his team-mate for the help but wasn’t happy with the situation.
“I have a very special relationship with Gavi. He has always taken great care of me and thought of me, that I could enjoy the last minutes,” he added.
“And yes, let’s see, it didn’t sit very well with me because we were winning a lot, there were 20 minutes left... I think he could have made better decisions, as I told you, but hey, I have nothing more to say.”
Torre is now being linked with an exit this summer, but the midfielder says he’s not sure what will happen next.
“Now I’m focused on the European Championships. I’m very, very motivated, in fact I haven’t been so motivated for a long time,” he said.
“Let’s see what happens, I don’t want to think any further, I’m here happy with my teammates, with the coach and let’s see if we can win the European Championship.
“In the end we all want to play and where we are happiest is on the pitch. We will see what happens.”
Torre and Spain’s Under-21s start their Euro campaign on Friday against Ukraine.
