Shocking candidate appears as one of the favorites to take over the Knicks

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd could reportedly take over the New York Knicks next season.

The New York Knicks' decision to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau shocked the NBA world, coming shortly after the team’s elimination following its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.

Now, in an unexpected twist, an even bigger surprise could be on the horizon, according to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks are interested in stealing Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon also believes the possibility of Kidd joining the Knicks shouldn't be ruled out.

"I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I know or even think that JKidd wants out of Dallas. That would be going way too far. What I can comfortably say is there certainly have been decisions, major franchise decisions that have been made, that he was not on board with," MacMahon revealed.

Kidd has spent the last four seasons as head coach of the Mavericks, most notably leading them to the NBA Finals in 2024.

He also has ties to New York, having played his final NBA season with the Knicks in 2012–13.
