What Man Utd star noticed from 'difficult' encounter with veteran striker, he knows exactly what went wrong

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has admitted that one player was a real handful to play against and tested him to his limits on the pitch.

Leny Yoro has seen out his debut season at Old Trafford and the Manchester United defender impressed with his performances at times under manager Ruben Amorim.

The 19-year-old French centre-back made 33 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season and Yoro picked up one assist and scored once for his side.

Yoro has stepped up in the United first-team squad and the Frenchman has been able to adapt to the tactical system of United manager Ruben Amorim at the club.

The United centre-back arrived at Old Trafford last summer after the Red Devils made a big-money move for Yoro and signed him from French side Lille.

The Red Devils agreed to pay an initial fee of £52.18m and a further £6.73m in add-ons to sign the highly rated Yoro, who had been linked with Real Madrid in 2024.

Man Utd star Leny Yoro opens up on the ‘toughest striker’ that he crossed paths with on the pitch during his time at Lille

Leny Yoro’s impressive spell at Lille caught the eye of clubs, including Manchester United, after his rise to the Ligue 1 side’s first team so early into his playing career.

The United star came through the Lille youth academy and Yoro went on to make 60 appearances for the French team’s senior side ahead of his arrival at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Rising Ballers, Yoro was asked to name the toughest striker that he faced and the Frenchman singled out former France forward Alexandre Lacazette.

The United defender admitted that Lyon captain Alexandre Lacazette proved a handful due to his experience in both the Premier League and Ligue 1.

“The toughest striker [I’ve faced]? I would say Lacazette, even in Ligue 1,” Yoro said.

“He was very good. He’s got a lot of experience because he played Premier League and Ligue 1.

“And his positioning in games, sometimes it’s difficult for defenders, always in your back.”

Former Lille star Leny Yoro admitted that he has been ‘really happy’ with one key moment in his Man Utd career so far

Yoro opened his goalscoring account for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 season after he found the back of the net for United against Lyon in the 2-2 Europa League draw in April.

Speaking on the first-leg quarter-final clash at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, he said: “Honestly, I was not ready to score!

“But I didn’t want to celebrate because I wanted to play quick [and] to try to win the game.

“I was really happy because my family was there and after the game, they said they were really happy for me and proud, so it was good.”

United will return to action in July for the start of their pre-season campaign, following on from the end of their post-season tour of Asia in May.
