Arsenal transfer news: Gunners'place'Real Madrid star on four-man left winger shortlist

Arsenal have reportedly placed Real Madrid’s Rodrygo on a four-man shortlist of targets to strengthen their left flank.

Rodrygo has enjoyed significant success during his six-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, helping Real Madrid win multiple honours, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.

However, there has been some speculation suggesting that Rodrygo’s time as a Real Madrid player could come to an end this summer.

The Brazilian is set to speak to new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso about his future, with Arsenal among the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation.

Arsenal place Rodrygo on transfer shortlist

According to Sky Sports News, the Gunners have placed Rodrygo high on their shortlist of potential targets to strengthen their left wing options ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

The report claims that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta views the left wing and striker as priority positions for the summer transfer market.

From Real Madrid’s perspective, they would be in a strong negotiating position if they decide to entertain offers for Rodrygo due to his contract situation.

With the winger under contract until June 2028, there has been a suggestion that Real Madrid could demand as much as €100m (£84.2m) to part ways with the Brazil international.

Who else are Arsenal considering?

In addition, Arsenal have added Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers to their left winger shortlist.

Williams is said to have a £50m release clause in his contract, although talks are reportedly underway over a new Athletic deal.

Sane could be an enticing option from a financial perspective, with the winger set to leave Bayern Munich when his contract expires later this month.

The 29-year-old also boasts plenty of Premier League experience from his four-year stay at Man City before he left for Germany in 2020.

Meanwhile, Rogers is attracting plenty of interest after scoring 14 goals and contributing 15 assists in 54 competitive appearances for Aston Villa in 2024-25.
