Report: Thomas Tuchel has quietly taken to one Newcastle United player

The impact Newcastle United star Dan Burn has had on England manager Thomas Tuchel is telling.

Burn is a Newcastle United legend after scoring the opening goal in their win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final back in March.

The defender has been one of Eddie Howe’s most important players since he arrived at St James’ Park and was rewarded for his fine form with an England debut only days after the Carabao Cup success.

Tuchel thought Burn could bring leadership into the England squad, having done so at club level under Howe.

The 33-year-old made his debut for the Three Lions against Albania in March and was again included in the England squad who will play Andorra and Senegal this month.

Having turned to him for his leadership skills, it seems Tuchel has been impressed having worked with him up close.

Dan Burn impresses England manager Thomas Tuchel

According to The Daily Mail, Tuchel has been “quietly taken” by Burn’s attitude in England training.

It will be interesting to see if the Newcastle star is selected in England’s upcoming games. He’ll no doubt want to play a bigger role than just impressing the manager behind the scenes, though there is naturally some huge competition for a starting berth.

Still, the fact Tuchel has been so impressed surely stands Burn in good stead ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

If he can keep his level of performance up next season, there would appear to be little reason why he can’t make the squad.

How Dan Burn instantly settled his nerves in England training

The defender has enjoyed a remarkable rise through the Football League and now plays at the highest level for both club and country.

Still, he could have been forgiven if he had felt somewhat nervous heading into his first training session with the Three Lions.

However, Burn confirmed he thought he was good enough to play for England during his first training session with the side earlier this year.

Indeed, Harry Kane was impressed by Burn on his England debut too, so it’s not as if he looks out of place.

Newcastle think Burn is a leader and it seems as if England do too. The good times just keep coming for him.
