Michigan emerged as a surprise presence in the recruitment of Mobile (Ala.) Cottage Hill Academy linebacker Shadarius Toodle back in the winter, with most recruiting observers probably believing it'd fade from contention by spring. But the Wolverines defied those expectations thanks to the strong connection linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary forged with Toodle and his family, and a memorable spring practice trip to Ann Arbor. Still, to have a legitimate chance of flipping him off his longstanding commitment to Auburn, Michigan's coaches and players were going to have to take Toodle's comfort with the program to another level.
Last weekend's official visit did exactly that.
"It improved (Michigan's chances)," Toodle's father, Shadrick said of the trip.
