Aaron Rodgers will officially be playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
After months of speculation, the four-time MVP is expected to sign a contract tomorrow to play one season with the team. Rodgers will attend minicamp next week, according to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now.
The 41-year-old, who was released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason, joins the Steelers after they went 9-8 last season, losing in the wildcard round to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers view Rodgers as a crucial piece to unlocking their Super Bowl aspirations and he proved down the stretch of last year that there’s still something left in the tank.
He finished last season with 28 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions throughout an inconsistent year with the Jets, but he seemed to turn it on late in the season with a renewed connection with Davante Adams. He won’t have Adams this time however, the Steelers brought in DK Metcalf, who is also a dominant wide receiver.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers always had faith that Rodgers would sign, Mike Tomlin being a major reason why because he was willing to work with Rodgers’ timeline.
The signing follows what has been a turbulent offseason for the Steelers. The team traded George Pickens, allowed Najee Harris to walk in free agency, and passed on every starting caliber free agent quarterback, besides Rodgers.
With Rodgers' veteran experience and leadership, the Steelers were rewarded for their patience. The franchise has been in dire need of stability since Ben Roethlisberger retired in 2021. Although Mason Rudolph returned to the team on two-year contract, Rodgers is the obvious starter.
