Manchester United target Franco Mastantuono is on the brink of a major move from River Plate this summer, as yet another long-term target they are missing out on.

The talented 17-year-old has had an incredible season, so far scoring seven goals and four assists in 19 games, attracting significant interest from Europe.

His standout performance came in the club’s Superclasico win over Boca Juniors in April with a stunning free kick goal helping his side win.

United were one of several clubs looking to bring the Argentinian star across the Atlantic to Europe, including PSG and Real Madrid as front runners.

Now, Reuters has reported that Real Madrid have agreed a £33 million ($45 million) move for Mastantuono.

It’s understood that everything is in place except for some minor details still left to iron out.

However, whilst a move may be completed this summer, it’s not expected that a move to Madrid will take place until December so he can see through River Plate’s Copa Libertadores campaign.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has also bagged an impressive record as the youngest player to make his senior debut for Argentina with his first call-up.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni called up Franco Mastantuono for the first time for matches against Chile and Colombia in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
