Wrexham have been linked with a whole host of midfielders this summer, but links to Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Tommy Doyle are particularly interesting.
Phil Parkinson is casting his eye over the transfer market as he weighs up potential additions for Wrexham.
Reports suggest that Wrexham are ready to splash the cash this summer, with Rob McElhenney predicting more success at the STōK Cae Ras.
It’s unclear just how many signings Parkinson is seeking this summer, but he appears to be placing a real focus on the midfield engine room.
Fulham captain Tom Cairney is weighing up an offer from Wrexham and Nottingham Forest’s Lewis O’Brien has been linked with a move to the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham are eyeing Reading’s Charlie Savage but may make a multi-million-pound move for a Premier League midfielder.

Kyle Walker verdict on Wrexham target Tommy Doyle
Reports earlier this week suggested Wrexham are exploring a move to sign Tommy Doyle from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Doyle is also fancied by Sheffield United and Sunderland, with Wolves allegedly seeking around £3million for his services.
MORE WREXHAM STORIES
That price tag seems surprisingly low, with Doyle racking up 50 Premier League appearances for Wolves.
Wrexham may end up having to pay more for Doyle this summer, but the 23-year-old would be a major coup.
Doyle is impressive on the ball and puts in a mean set piece – something Parkinson may value highly.
One man who certainly rates Doyle highly is Kyle Walker, who regularly trained alongside Doyle at Manchester City.
Speaking on BBC Sport in March 2023 as Doyle impressed in Sheffield United’s FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur, Walker hailed the midfielder for his control of the game.
Walker suggested that Doyle is a ‘good passer of the ball’ and loves to get on the ball to drive his team forward.
Walker added that Doyle was adept at spreading the play in training and Pep Guardiola even wanted him on set-pieces because of his technique.
Kevin De Bruyne’s presence at City just sums up how highly Guardiola rated Doyle’s set pieces, with Walker adding that he can hurt any team that gives him space to play.
“That’s Tommy. That’s Tommy in a nutshell. Good passer of the ball, gets on the ball on the half-turn,” said Walker.
“He likes to spray and he does this a lot in training. The gaffer always gets him on set pieces when we’re doing certain things because he’s got good technique. And I think these sort of games you give him space and he can lift his head and he can hurt you,” he added.
Wrexham could make multiple midfield signings
Those qualities would be welcomed at Wrexham, especially as Parkinson looks to make the most of set-pieces and balls into the box.
Doyle would be a significant addition to Wrexham’s midfield, but we would not be surprised to see multiple additions in the engine room.
Ollie Rathbone was brilliant last season and both Matty James and George Dobson get through so much dirty work in the middle of the pitch.
Andy Cannon remains on the sidelines and Elliot Lee is looking to recapture his best form after a fairly quiet 2025 by his high standards.
Wrexham appear to be placing a real focus on adding a left-footed midfielder, given Cairney, O’Brien and Savage all fit that bill.
Parkinson may want to bring that balance on the left side of his midfield three, but also add another player who can sit deep or affect the game going box-to-box.
Doyle could be that player, and while Wrexham continue to receive misplaced criticism for allegedly only targeting players in their 30s, Doyle still has bags of potential to improve and become a key man for years to come – if Wrexham can win the race.
