The New York Knicks added just another chapter to their tortured history when they were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs after losing to the Indiana Pacers 4-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Still, it was the best season the Knicks had enjoyed in the last 25 years. They defeated the Detroit Pistons in Round 1 of the playoffs and followed that up by knocking off the defending champion Boston Celtics. Many didn't expect the Knicks to come out of that series, but they looked like the better team throughout.
Knicks' head coaching opening gets significant Mavericks update
However, advancing to the conference finals for the first time in 25 years proved not to be enough, as the Knicks announced on Tuesday they were firing head coach Tom Thibodeau after five seasons.
Many around the league were initially shocked. But according to some insiders, this was months in the making. Now the question becomes who the Knicks will bring in that they believe can put them over the top?
ESPN's Tim MacMahon believes that it's not outside the realm of possibilities that Jason Kidd could be a candidate.
"I'm not going to tell you that [Kidd] wants out of Dallas, that would be going way too far," MacMahon said. "I can comfortably say there have been major decisions he was not on board with."
MacMahon is likely referring to the infamous trade that occurred between the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers that sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles for Anthony Davis.
It wouldn't be surprising if Kidd felt he had been stabbed in the back by the move, especially after taking the Mavericks to the NBA Finals the previous June. Kidd played for the Knicks in the 2012-13 season, which was his last before retiring.
