Eagles’ Reasons for Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Trade Exposed

Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson hasn't been thrilled that the team traded him to the Houston Texans fresh off a Super Bowl victory last season.

Especially considering the organization's struggles whenever they didn't have Gardner-Johnson on the field in 2021 and 2023.

And now?

Comments made by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio set the veteran safety off even more.

The newest member of the Texans went to Instagram to explain his thoughts on why the team moved on from him.

"I was a test dummy for them, so now they can be like my 'scheme' work, or did my skill set make it work," Gardner-Johnson said. "I had zero issues. People had issues with me. So, yeah, let the salary cap be the 'excuse.'"

Gardner-Johnson has always been outspoken as a player. It's part of why he's about to play for his fourth different team in as many years.

There's one thing he gets wrong about his departure from Philly, though.

Whether he believes the organization did him wrong or not is irrelevant. It is impossible to look past all the teams that have had him for a year, and moved on from him the following season.

Philadelphia did it twice!

Reports out of Philly have also painted Gardner-Johnson as a player who would do his own thing within the scheme. That would leave him out of position more times than not.

It worked out well enough for the Eagles in 2024. Would that be the case in 2025?

Fangio and the team clearly didn't want to take that chance. It was even easier considering the fact that the organization still needs to pay Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, and a collection of other defensive stars over the next few years.

Gardner-Johnson may not want to admit it, but there's a reason the team moved on from him.

And there wasn't any sort of production that could change it.
