Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has found his biggest cheerleader in wife Hailey Summers.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard married Summers in February 2024. They welcomed their son Ares in April of the same year.
On May 21, Gilgeous-Alexander accepted the honor of the 2024-25 NBA season's Most Valuable Player. In his emotional acceptance speech, the Canadian native shouted out “the one and only Hailey Summers.”
“Hailey Summers, thank you for everything you are — for me, for our son, Ares. You were the first person to show me what love really meant ... what sacrifice really meant," he said. "And I can’t wait to spend the rest of this journey called life with you."
Gilgeous-Alexander added, “Thank you for everything. I wouldn’t be the man I am, I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t be the father I am, without you. Thank you.”

Just like her husband, Summers is originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, according to her University at Albany bio. She was born on Oct. 22, 1999, to parents Ron Summers and Carolyn Oliver. Summers has two siblings: a sister named Taylor and a brother named Will.
She attended St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, where she lettered in soccer, basketball and football.

In February 2017, Summers announced that she had signed with the University at Albany to play NCAA Division I soccer. She attended the university from 2017 to 2021, playing in a total of 73 games and leading the team as captain in 2019 and 2021, per her bio.
During her college career, Summers wore No. 2 — the same number that her husband sports on the basketball court.
In November 2021, Summers said goodbye to her collegiate soccer career via Instagram, writing, “5 years later.. thank you soccer for everything but most importantly thank you for bringing me the best of friends I could ask for ❤️ #2 out.”

Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers wed on Feb. 14, 2024, in an intimate ceremony, per The Oklahoman.
In a series of polaroid pictures that Gilgeous-Alexander later posted on Instagram, the couple posed in front of a table full of pink roses. In two of the photos, a sign can be seen on the table, which reads: “Just Married, Shai & Hailey, February 14, 2024.”
They welcomed their first child in 2024
Summers gave birth to their son, Ares Alexander, on April 25, 2024.
The new parents announced their son’s arrival a few days after his birth, sharing a joint Instagram post with a photo of the newborn sleeping next to a wooden sign.
The couple celebrated Ares' 1st birthday with a carousel of images, which included a sweet photo of the child standing in front of a basketball.
“No no no!! One already 😭 where does the time go,” the couple wrote in a joint post. “Happy birthday to our little man, you complete us ❤️.”
Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers celebrated his birthday with an “Ares’ First Rodeo” themed party, which was attended by several of Gilgeous-Alexander’s OKC Thunder teammates, including Jaylin Williams, Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein.

When Gilgeous-Alexander needs some guidance, he typically asks his wife.
“She is brutally honest,” he told Andscape in December 2024. “She played basketball. She sees things. If my mindset is off, she makes sure I know. Those are the things that I can control. And she can see if I wear it on my sleeve.”
He added, “She can see if I’m not aggressive and say, ‘What is the point of being out there if you’re not being aggressive?’ It’s a little hard, but I’m like, ‘[Expletive] you’re right.’ ”
Gilgeous-Alexander added that he takes Summers' advice seriously, since "she knows me better than anyone."

In February, Gilgeous-Alexander announced the launch of the Converse SHAI 001, his first signature shoe. One of the colors — Hail Clay — features a special shout-out to his wife.
“Inspired by the color of the eyes of my Most Valuable Person, my beautiful wife Hailey,” he wrote in a May 2025 Instagram post.
