Among the list of Seahawks players named to the Top 50 Players list for the team's 50th season, punter Michael Dickson made the list for specialists alongside Jon Ryan. Dickson is one of two current Seahawks players that made the list with third-year cornerback Devon Witherspoon making the cut as well.
For Dickson, an Australian-born punter who didn't watch a full game of American football until college, says it was an honor.
"Pretty cool," he said. "I haven't taken my time here for granted at all, so it's quite an honor to be part of that."
He added that it was, "Definitely cool, two punters on there."
Dickson has had quite the career so far, as he heads into Year 8.
"I still feel like my rookie season was like a season ago," he said. "I come out here and think about that rookie minicamp where I was locked in, taking it super serious and I still feel like I'm like that today. Like I said earlier, I haven't taken any of my time here for granted. I'm doing everything I can to when the time comes, leave with no regrets. So, I'm doing everything."
Dickson's immediately made an impact for the Seahawks coming into the league, making a Pro Bowl and receiving AP All-Pro honors his rookie year. He's kept up the productivity, as his 48.2 career punt average currently ranks third in NFL history and first in franchise history and he ranks first in franchise net average (42.9).
Although he's only had one full season working with Dickson, special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh said he's "impressed" by what Dickson has showed him.
"He's certainly not taken for granted within this building. We love him and highly impressed by him all the time. Just think the world of him, his consistency as a performer, he's really a model, even though what he does is really different from a lot of other positions on the field. I think when you get past that, if you're another player and you see who he is as a pro and what he does day in and day out, the mental approach, the care he takes for his body, his ability to take information, good or bad, and process it and then move on. It's really a great example for other players as well. So super happy for him. He is very deserving of that honor. Just really thrilled to have him on our team."
