Packers Rookie Wide Receiver Earns Major Praise From Packers Insider

While Packers GM Brian Gutekunst made the big move to select Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, he also made the move to draft a wide receiver in the third round.

That third-round wide receiver is none other than Savion Williams, who has shown out in Green Bay during OTAs.

Savion Williams Receives Praise From Green Bay Media

Williams has been a bright spot for the Packers during their offseason, as he has quickly shown how much of a force he can be at his best.

Packers insider Kyle Malzahn recently gave Williams a shoutout on social media as the rookie ran routes at practice earlier this week.

“His athletic build jumps off the page,” Malzahn said.

That isn’t always what is said about rookie pass-catchers in the NFL, but Williams looks to be a very talented and skilled player.

What Will Savion Williams Accomplish in This Packers Offense?

The 6’4″, 222-pound Williams has the chance to really flourish in Packers head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense, even if it is a very deep wide receiver room.

While playing for the Horned Frogs, Williams made strides in each of his five years there.

He improved his receptions, receiving yards, touchdown catches, and rushing yards totals every single season of his great career.

To end his TCU career in 2024, he caught 60 passes for 611 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 322 yards and six scores on the ground.

He is the type of gadget player who can perhaps take this Packers offense to a new level, even if speedster Jayden Reed is also a gadget player.

But the fact that he has the ability to run almost any route in the route tree and take a hand-off all the way to the end zone means that he can be a game-changer in the right system.

That right offensive system could be the one in Green Bay if he ends up playing his cards right.

Opposing teams will need to keep their eyes on No. 83 week in and week out, especially if he carves out a role in the wide receiver room as a rookie.
