All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they look to beat the early summer transfer deadline.

Arsenal are now pushing to strengthen their squad this summer with the early window open until June 10. The Gunners have a number of areas they need to address ahead of the new season, with significantly more depth required for a title charge.

Contracts latest

Journalist Charles Watts has reported that there is progress in the contract talks with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly amid reports of issues in both deals. “Contract discussions are ongoing with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly and of course the aim is to get both secured to new long-term deals as quickly as possible,” Watts told CaughtOffside. “Arsenal are aware that there is a pressing need to get both tied down due to the fact their current deals are due to expire at the end of the season and sporting director Andrea Berta has taken a firm grasp on those discussions.

“Berta has made excellent progress in the talks with Gabriel Magalhaes and my understanding is that Arsenal’s new sporting director has made a very good impression on everyone who is currently involved in contract discussions at the club. So I think that bodes well when it comes to Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri.”

Tavares departs

Arsenal have completed the sale of full-back Nuno Tavares, only taking a loss of £2million. Lazio have made their Tavares loan deal permanent by activating their £6million option to buy after the wing-back impressed during his temporary spell.

Tavares was signed by Arsenal for £8million, but while he showed flashes, he was never seen as defensively secure enough to make it at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners will be pleased with the lack of big loss on their investment even if it didn’t work out.

Tierney’s goodbye

Kieran Tierney has said goodbye to Arsenal fans after his release was confirmed on Wednesday, as was known well in advance. The full-back had already agreed a deal to return to Celtic having been informed by the club that his contract would not be extended. Tierney still found a way to be very useful in his last season, and he even scored in his last outing - a fitting goodbye.

“Just thank you for everything from day one,” he told the club website. “They supported us through the good times and the bad, and they supported me through some hard times as well. I think that's what I'm most grateful for, the times where it wasn't so good or so easy for me is when they probably supported me most, so I'm just very grateful and I feel very lucky to have the support from them.

“I feel so lucky that I've played for this club and the love that the supporters have given me has been amazing. I've loved every day here and I've learned so much, I've improved so much and I just feel very lucky.”
