‘In talks’ - Tottenham hatch plan to sign Sergio Reguilón replacement following key decision

Tottenham have expressed a strong interest in a rising teenage defender

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a defining window of transfer activity as they aim to transform a side that finished 17th in the Premier League into one equipped to compete in the Champions League next season.

The North London giants endured their worst league campaign in recent history after picking up just 39 points, and falling to defeat on 22 occasions in the league - their most since 1935 when the club were relegated from the top-flight.

They also conceded an alarming 66 goals which is their joint most since the inaugural season of the Premier League era in 1992/93 when they were managed by Doug Livermore and Ray Clemence.

However, despite these setbacks Spurs most importantly earned their first major trophy since 2008 and their first European honour since 1984 to secure automatic qualification into Europe’s elite competition.

As it stands, it’s not yet been determined if Ange Postecoglou will be in the dugout for next season, but transfer activity is thought to be ongoing in the background as the Lillywhites prepare for an important period of transfer business.

Tottenham plot move for MLS sensation

Tottenham have reportedly held talks with MLS club New England Revolution as they bid to sign young left-back Peyton Miller.

“This report comes on the heels of @ByDougMcIntyre saying that at least one English Premier League club is interested in buying the 17-year-old.”

Miller has two seasons of first team experience in the MLS and has so far racked up 24 appearances for New England, contributing one goal and four assists. He primarily plays in the left-back position but has on occasion been utilised in a more advanced left midfield role.

He’s represented the USA National team at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 level and has played a combined total of 14 games across those age groups and has scored two goals.

Miller is believed to be on the radar of ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is now in charge of the USA national team at senior level, and could prove to be a long-term successor to Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, who is currently the first choice in that position.

Tottenham must wait to integrate Peyton Miller into their team

Tottenham are believed to be pushing to sign Peyton Miller this summer but are aware of FIFA rules which stipulate that the teenager would not be able to link up with the capital club until he turns 18.

This would likely lead to Miller being loaned back out to New England for another season before linking up with his new teammates at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As it stands, Spurs could enter the season with only one natural left-back in Destiny Udogie although Djed Spence has proven he can play in that position with great effect despite being a natural right-back.

Spurs have already released Sergio Reguilon, with the Spaniard struggling to get anywhere near the standards he showed when he first arrived from Real Madrid. Overall, the 28-year-old played just four league matches this season after spending time on loan at Atletico, Manchester United and Brentford in recent years.

Tottenham also face a decision over the future of long-serving defender Ben Davies, who has racked up over 350 appearances for the club since arriving from Swansea City.
