Liverpool are working on a handful of transfer deals as they aim to bolster their squad for the 2025-26 campaign

A key figure within the Germany international set-up believes that Florian Wirtz will become a Liverpool player and has publicly confirmed the star’s desire to join the Reds this summer.

The Anfield outfit are front of the pack to sign Wirtz and there is a lot of expectation the 22-year-old will join Liverpool, with the clubs in advanced talks over a deal. The Bundesliga side have played hardball over a transfer fee, rejecting two offers from the Reds with the latter coming in at £109m.

Rudi Voller discusses Florian Wirtz to Liverpool

Speaking to German media, Voller said of Wirtz’s potential move to England: “It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool. I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. But with transfers like these, it’s often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached.

"Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through.

"Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen, but also for the national team. That's why he costs a few euros more."

Wirtz has 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 games for Leverkusen and was part of the side that won the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24 - as they also went unbeaten to be crowned champions of Germany. Leverkusen also lifted the DFB-Pokal and made the final of the Europa League in that season.

Ex-Germany boss says “world class” Florian Wirtz has “no upper limit”

In an interview with German outlet BILD, 2014 World Cup winning manager Joachim Löw issued some major praise for Wirtz, insisting he has “no upper limit” and that he has all the attributes to be world class.

He said: "Liverpool is a real statement, because moving to the Premier League also involves a lot of adaptation. That starts with the rhythm of the game. But Florian Wirtz has no upper limit; he's definitely ready for the next step. We've had that feeling for a long time. I just thought he'd be more likely to choose Real Madrid if he went abroad.”

Löw did admit surprise by Wirtz’s decision to move to Anfield, as he believed he would follow Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

The ex-Germany boss continued: "He has developed enormously under him; they have a great relationship of trust. That's very important for a young player. Nevertheless, I have no concerns that Wirtz will prevail – no matter where he would have gone. He plays with a naturalness that can't be coached. He possesses all the skills a footballer needs to be a world-class player.”
