Newcastle United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling.
Southampton reportedly must sell prized asset Tyler Dibling following Premier League relegation.
Newcastle United are one of several top-flight clubs that have expressed interest in the winger. Dibling enjoyed a breakout campaign at the Saints despite playing for a team rooted to the foot of the table.
Capable of playing on the right flank or as a No.10, the 19-year-old earned his first caps for England under-21s last year. He is the latest cab off the rank from a St Mary’s production line that developed Alan Shearer, Matt Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana.
Tyler Dibling’s huge £55m price tag
Reports in January staggeringly claimed Southampton wanted £100million for the wonderkid. However, that asking price has plummeted following relegation as Saints need to cash in to reinvest for the Championship.
Sky Sports claim St Mary’s chief now demand £55million for the youngster - a figure that still likely scares off Newcastle. While funds are available this summer, the Magpies must maintain a prudent approach given the PSR climate.
Newcastle United stance
Eddie Howe is keen to add players who can make an impact at Premier League and Champions League level. Splashing out £55million on a novice with 43 senior appearances would be considered a risk.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for a player who left Chelsea's academy just three years ago. But like Newcastle, the price tag will likely deter them from making an approach.
Southampton honest about transfer reality
Saints sporting director Johannes Spors was honest about the reality facing the club regarding Dibling this summer. He said last month: "Like every football club, we try to keep our best players. But we also know there will be a market in the summer. In every single case, we will make an individual decision on what is the best in that situation.
"In general it’s a very good situation to have a player like Tyler Dibling, he did a fantastic development. If development is one of our most important headlines in everything that we do, then it is important that there are role models and examples of players that go through the Southampton way and set foot on the St Mary’s grass in a first-team game.
"He (Dibling) is a great example. There are a lot of positives coming from the academy and I will always be open to integrate young players from the academy into our first-team environment."
