Leicester City coach linked with immediate Premier League return amid Ruud van Nistelrooy doubts

Leicester City goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar is reportedly wanted by Brighton with his future at the King Power Stadium in doubt.

Ten Rouwelaar was the only coach who arrived at City alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy last November, the two Dutchmen having worked together under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

With van Nistelrooy in a perilous position, the same is true for ten Rouwelaar. But that may not be a concern as he could make an immediate return to the Premier League with the Seagulls.

Sky in Italy have reported that Brighton are keen to add ten Rouwelaar to Fabian Hurzeler’s staff at the Amex Stadium.

This week, Brighton reshuffled their backroom team with two goalkeeping coaches, Marco Knoop and Jack Stern, losing their jobs.

Ten Rouwelaar would make sense as a replacement having worked with Brighton’s number one Bart Verbruggen at two previous clubs, NAC Breda and Anderlecht.

He arrived at City with a reputation for innovative training methods and with a big profile back in the Netherlands. In late 2023, all three of the goalkeepers named in the Dutch squad had at some point been under ten Rouwelaar’s tutelage.

Speaking about his potential impact at City last December, van Nistelrooy: “He (ten Rouwelaar) will make Mads (Hermansen) better for sure. He’s worked with young talented goalkeepers and made them improve into the highest level.

“Verbruggen is one of course, who he worked with at Anderlecht. He worked with (Andre) Onana at United and I think he was in the best form of his life in the months he worked with Jelle.

“He’s a fantastic addition to the team. He’s not only improving the goalkeepers and playing out, but the players around the keeper to do better. Of course you need everyone to be involved in playing out from the back and that whole process he’s great at.”
