Ben Doak is edging closer to a sensational transfer to Everton from bitter rivals Liverpool.

Gary Ablett’s transfer in 1992 was the last time the Blues signed a player from the Reds, but David Moyes would have no issues in ending that 33-year-old record.

The Scotsman is looking to build on the momentum he has instilled since his return to Everton in January, and has been tasked with rejuvenating the squad following the release of four senior players.

And Moyes could look toward Liverpool to do just that.

Doak ‘would agree to join Everton’

The Freidkin Group have made funds available to Moyes to bring in a new wave of signings ahead of Everton’s move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

A potential shock move for Jack Grealish shows how the Toffees are willing to change their approach compared to years gone by and target players from top clubs across the Premier League.

As reported by Sky Sports News (2 June), Everton want to sign Liverpool forward Doak.

Club Appearances Goals Assists Minutes Played

Middlesborough 24 3 7 1,789′

Liverpool 10 – – 307′

Celtic 2 – – 25′

Doak’s record at senior level

And ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the Toffees would have no problem in convincing the Scotland international to join.

“I think Doak would agree to join Everton,” King said.

“I can’t see that being a problem. There have been many players who have played for both Everton and Liverpool. The question is, will he get more playing time with Everton?

“I can’t see Liverpool refusing to sell to Everton. They’ve worked well in the past; players have gone from Everton to Liverpool and vice versa. Big-name, international players.

“Therefore, I don’t think this will be a problem for a young player who would probably get more of a chance at Everton than at Liverpool at this moment in time.”

Everton need more cover on the right

It is well documented that Everton need more cover in attack. However, it’s the right-hand side that is lacking the most.

As a result, this highlights the need for a player like Doak to come in and offer a viable threat down that side of the pitch.
