Liverpool are planning to move for a new No9 in the summer transfer market. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have failed to convince Arne Slot and both could look likely to leave the club this summer.

With £126m set to be spent on Florian Wirtz - and another £45m on Milos Kerkez - there might not be a massive transfer budget to land a new striker.

Costs are spiralling for in-demand frontmen - with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike valued by their clubs at €100m or more. Even back-up options like Joao Pedro or Benjamin Sesko won’t come cheap.

So sporting director Richard Hughes might well welcome the opportunity to sign a quality striker for a reasonable price.

That player could be Jonathan David.

Could Liverpool sign Jonathan David?

The 25-year-old is a free agent having left Lille - and has got plenty of clubs on his trail this summer. Canada international David has attracted interest from Serie A - with Inter, Napoli and Juventus rumoured to be suitors.

Indeed Juve could well be favourites for David at this stage, while Arsenal and Chelsea are also reported to have checked him out.

And in a new item by Caught Offside about Juve’s chase, the Italian club have been warned to tie this deal up quickly in order to avoid it falling apart.

“As always, the market revolves around strikers,” the report reads.

“Juve are closely following Jonathan David, who could arrive on a free transfer, provided the deal is done quickly. Dragging things out could jeopardise the agreement.”
