Arsenal consider Aston Villa transfer offer which would demand huge profit

Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers has emerged as a potential target for Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to The Times. Rogers spent his first full season in the Premier League last year and, in all competitions, scored 14 goals and delivered 15 assists in 54 appearances.

Currently away with England, the squad in which he broke into last season and has become a routine pick under new boss Thomas Tuchel, Rogers only joined from Middlesbrough in January 2024. If all the required add-ons were met, Villa would still only pay Boro up to £15m - a fee dwarfed by what he is now valued at.

Rogers has become an integral part of Unai Emery's squad and performed in all competitions last season, scoring a Champions League hat-trick against Celtic and plundering goals against West Ham and Tottenham in the early rounds of their FA Cup run to the semi-finals.

He has been extensively linked with a move to Chelsea, too, but now The Times report that Arsenal - who finished second in the Premier League again under Mikel Arteta - have added Rogers to their list of summer transfer targets as they make moves to beef up their squad ahead of their latest title push.

Villa have been proactive in ensuring that their star players are suitably contracted and tied down; in November of last year, Rogers - less than a year after arriving at the club - agreed fresh terms which means he is tied to Villa until 2030 and, as mentioned, it'd take a substantial sum of money, above and beyond what Villa paid, to take him out of the club.

It's likely to be a summer in which there is speculation regarding a host of existing Villa players; Leon Bailey, Emiliano Martinez and Jacob Ramsey have all been linked with moves away since the end of the season, but Tyrone Mings has committed his own future by agreeing a new contract.
