Arsenal leading list to sign Atlético Madrid player – Fight on for Gunners

On May 22nd, El Chiringuito reported Arsenal are to hold talks over a move for Julián Alvarez. They also reported Atlético Madrid would need more than what they paid [€95m] to sanction his sale this summer.

The Argentina international’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, spoke to El Chiringuito, and left the door open for a transfer. He revealed he’s received approaches from other clubs, without specifying Arsenal, and Sport have relayed his comments.

“He received many calls, but Atlético’s position is that Julián stays next season,” he said.

“He has admiration for Spanish clubs and having followed Leo’s career since he was a child, I don’t think there are many Argentinians who don’t have a fondness for Barca, especially given how the team played this season.”

After Hidalgo left the door open for the 25-year-old’s exit, Los Rojiblancos have responded via a report from Friday’s edition of AS.

Diego Simeone’s side aren’t willing to negotiate with any of his interested parties and the ‘list is headed by Arsenal’. The report states the Gunners have shown the ‘most interest’ in the striker.

Barcelona have been named as a contender but won’t be able to afford him, at least this summer. AS suspect the representative’s comment was to either put his client on the market or look for a renewal.

For now, Atlético have no plans to sell nor to extend the World Cup winner’s contract. He has four more years left on his contract and it includes a €500m release clause.

Despite Mikel Artea’s side showing great interest, Atlético’s stance makes it difficult for them to secure Alvarez’s services.
