'Unbelievable' Liverpool player could now link up with Kevin De Bruyne next season at Napoli - journalist

Darwin Nunez is a bit like Marmite at times for Liverpool fans, as you can either love him or loathe him.

At times, Nunez can be one of the best players on the pitch and genuinely have a solid impact on the game, with Ally McCoist even calling him “unbelievable” at one point.

However, more often than not throughout the 2024-25 season, he’s been far from his best, with most of his final third movements resulting in a missed chance or a loss of possession.

Indeed, Nunez’s outing against Brentford towards the end of the campaign, when he bagged two injury-time goals, was impressive, but that version of him doesn’t come out often enough.

So, it doesn’t come as all that much of a surprise to see the Uruguay international being linked with an Anfield exit before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off.

Napoli enter the race for the transfer of Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez

Since the January transfer window, rumours have been circulating about whether or not Nunez will be a Liverpool player next season.

Saudi Pro League clubs have been the most linked with Nunez, but as per a new report from journalist Alfredo Pedulla, a new team has entered the race.

The report outlines that Al-Hilal are ‘listed among others’ with an interest in the striker, with Nunez recently finding himself ‘followed’ by Napoli.

Kevin De Bruyne could be joined by Darwin Nunez in Napoli next season

Although Kevin De Bruyne’s Serie A switch hasn’t yet been officially confirmed, the deal feels like it’s as good as done.

Antonio Conte managed to lead Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024-25 campaign, and with the addition of players such as Nunez and De Bruyne, it’s hard to see how any other team in Italy could beat them next term.

If Nunez can find the form he showed while playing for Benfica in the Liga Portugal, he could easily become a world-beater.

But, with the way rival fans have hounded him at Liverpool this term, it’s not surprising that his confidence on the pitch has taken a massive hit.

If he can get himself out of the limelight and focus on his football, he could easily live up to the potential he showed before his big-money move to Anfield.

Indeed, only time will tell whether a move will occur this summer, but on the face of it, an exit makes the most sense for all the involved parties.

Especially if Liverpool want to improve their ranks further after the arrival of Florian Wirtz.
