Jobe Bellingham transfer dilemma after England call-up as Tino Livramento decision made

Jobe Bellingham

Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento has been named in England's U21 squad for for this summer’s European Championships in Slovakia.

Head coach Lee Carsley has picked a 23-man group for the competition as the Young Lions aim to defend the title which they won two years ago in Georgia.

Livramento is joined by former Newcastle teammate Elliot Anderson and Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham. Middlesbrough youngster Hayden Hackney is also included, along with Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott.

Livramento's inclusion was expected, after Thomas Tuchel explained why the full-back had been left out of the senior squad for this month's friendly against Senegal and the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Andorra.

Tuchel said: "Tino Livramento, Jarell Quansah, Elliott Anderson and Liam Delap - all names who could play a role for us but a major tournament comes up for the Under-21s and the intention is they play a big part in this tournament.

"I like it a lot that they have chances to be leaders in this group, to be players we hopefully will rely on. We will monitor them closely but we decided that with these players they take the responsibility for the Under-21s."

Delap hasn't been included in the squad, however. The striker will instead go to the Club World Cup with Chelsea after completing his £30m move to the Blues.

Whether Bellingham ends up making the finals remains to be seen. The Sunderland midfielder is on the verge of a move to Borussia Dortmund, who are also appearing in the Club World Cup.

Should a £25m move go through, Bellingham may have to withdraw from the squad. West Bromwich Albion's Tom Fellows will travel as an additional training player and could replace him.

James McAtee, linked with Newcastle, has been included after being left out of Man City's Club World Cup squad. Livramento has also been linked with a move to City, who are looking to get all their transfer business done before the competition, but Newcastle aren't going to sell and the full-back's inclusion in the squad kills off any lingering transfer talk.

England will kick-off their campaign in the group stage against Czechia on Thursday June 12 (8pm BST) at the Mol Arena before they tackle Slovenia three days later on Sunday June 15 (5pm BST).

Their final group game against Germany takes place on Wednesday June 18 (8pm BST) at the Stadion Pod Zoborom, before the competition heads into the knockout phase with the top two teams from both groups progressing to the quarter-finals.
