£32m Newcastle United man will look to replicate Anthony Gordon in Slovakia this month

· 6 June 2025, 10:00

**Thomas Tuchel had to explain to the media why the likes of Tino Livramento and Adam Wharton were cut from his England squad when he announced his last set of call-ups.**

This month sees the Young Lions defend their European Championships crown in Slovakia, and Tuchel allowed Lee Carsley to pick the best players for the job rather than have them representing the seniors in a World Cup Qualifier against Andorra and a friendly against Senegal.

England U21s won the U21 European Championships in 2023 under Lee Carsley and the former England interim boss would no doubt love to retain the crown when the competition gets underway later this month.

Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon scooped the Player of the Tournament gong during that competition too.

Newcastle's £32 million full-back Tino Livramento has been included in Carsley's squad, and we're sure he will be hoping to replicate his clubmate's success both in terms of lifting the trophy and being a standout player/

Lee Carsley's squad is strong with some top-quality youngsters, but they will come up against some tough opposition in the form of the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as Slovenia.

Livramento is joined by former Toon star Elliot Anderson and Newcastle transfer targets Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott.

The tournament kicks off on 11th June with England's first game on 12th as they take on the Czech Republic. Three days later, the Young Lions face off against Slovenia before facing Germany on 18th June.

All games will be broadcast live on Channel 4 - so at least there'll be some competitive football to watch this month.

Best of luck to Tino and the rest of the lads. Bring it home again!
