Arsenal tie down key defender with new long-term contract

**Gabriel Magalhaes has signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal, keeping him in north London until 2029.**

The Brazilian's deal was set to expire in 2027, but he has now put pen to paper on new terms that see him commit his future to the Gunners. Since joining from Lille in 2020, he has become a key member of Mikel Arteta's side.

This contract will see Gabriel remain at the heart of Arsenal's defence for the foreseeable seasons and that will come as a great sight to fans.

Gabriel signs new long-term Arsenal contract

Gabriel has evolved into one of Arsenal's most important players since first joining the club, scoring 20 goals and keeping X clean sheets in 210 appearances across all competitions.

He came close to leaving north London two years ago when he was subject to interest from the Saudi Pro League, but he opted against a move in favour of staying with the Gunners.

The 14-cap Brazil international has shown why he did so, with his passion and love for the club put so clearly on display every time he steps onto the pitch in Arsenal's famous red and white.

On signing his new deal he said: "It's an amazing club and I'm so proud to sign a new contract. "I love this club, I love the fans, my teammates, I love this stadium - I'm so proud and thank you for all the support." Sporting director Andrea Berta made a new contract for Gabriel one of his priorities when he joined the Gunners in March and has followed through with the task.

With the Brazilian currently ranked as one of the best centre backs in the world, Arsenal fans will be glad to see their side hold onto him. Gabriel is sure to be of interest to some of the biggest names in football, but with him signing a new deal with the Gunners, he now looks set to stay in north London in the long-term.
