Football is rife with stories of mercenary players chasing nothing but money — but it seems West Ham have discovered the exception, just when we need it least.
Because this morning, [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13336561/summer-transfer-window-2025-dates-when-does-it-open-and-close-deadline-day-and-club-world-cup-window-for-premier-league) are reporting that Hammers winger [Mohammed Kudus](https://www.claretandhugh.info/mohammed-kudus-bio/) has turned down the chance to triple his current salary.
Kudus looks set to be the first player through the London Stadium revolving doors this summer, and Sky have now revealed just how big the Saudi offer was. The Pro League club — believed to be Al-Nassr FC — were prepared to pay the 24-year-old Ghanaian a staggering £270,000 per week after tax.
However, as Claret & Hugh previously reported, Kudus has no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia and has instead prioritised joining a Champions League club to progress his career.
Al-Nassr were willing to pay £70 million for the winger — which, as things stand, is £20 million more than either Arsenal or Chelsea seem prepared to offer.
