More questions are being asked of Andre Onana after two underwhelming seasons at Manchester United.
In his first season at Manchester United, Andre Onana struggled to settle into Erik ten Hag’s team, despite being a signing many expected would help transform the way the team played.
Onana made a lot of mistakes and cost United a place in the Champions League knockouts in 2023/24, although he did go on to win the FA Cup.
The Cameroon international started the 2024/25 season strongly, but his form gradually faded as errors crept into his performances again. Onana was involved in a mistake that led to the only goal in United’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Since arriving from Inter Milan in a £47 million deal, the jury has been out on Onana as to whether he is the right goalkeeper for United. Fewer people seem to think so after watching him closely for the past two seasons.

Ben Foster advises Man Utd to replace Andre Onana
Onana has been told he ‘hasn’t done enough’ to keep his spot at Old Trafford by former United goalkeeper Ben Foster.
The Cameroonian kept just nine clean sheets in his 34 appearances in the Premier League, conceding 44 goals as United finished 15th in the table.
To make matters worse for Onana, United have been linked with a move for Aston Villa stopper Emiliano Martinez.

Speaking to talkSPORT about Onana, Foster suggested that United should replace their first-choice keeper with Martinez.
“It’s a brutal league, the Premier League, and I think [over] the last two seasons that he hasn’t done enough to prove that he is a Manchester United No 1,” Foster said.
“I think he’s got ability and like so many other Man United players, he’d go elsewhere and probably flourish. I think that’s probably going to be the case with him as well.
“If the opportunity does come to sign somebody like an Emi Martinez, they’ve got to go for it. He’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“A lot of people said this season, probably not up to the standard of the previous two years, but still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“You’ve got to have a strong spine in any football team. If you get the goalie right, you get a couple of strikers in, Bruno’s going to be staying now.
“It’s a great start to the transfer window for them.”
Onana isn’t the only keeper with an uncertain future at United.
The same applies to Altay Bayindir, who may leave Old Trafford in search of regular football this summer.
United contacted Villa about a move for Martinez in January before deciding to keep faith in Onana.
🧤 Dibu Martínez podría despedirse en este mercado de pases del Aston Villa y Manchester United sería uno de los interesados en contar con el arquero campeón del mundo.

It has also been suggested that United are mentoring the World Cup winner’s situation at Villa Park and may act if he decides to leave the Midlands.
Martinez was reduced to tears after Villa’s final home game of the season, which could have been his farewell to their supporters.
