The Giants are now halfway through spring practices.
They held their sixth organized team activities session Thursday — and the second that was open to reporters.
Prized rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart struggled.
How did starter (for now) Russell Wilson perform?
Well, let’s take a look.
Wilson got 16 reps, all with the starters. He completed 10 of 14 passes and took two sacks. Wilson also threw an interception.
The bulk of Wilson’s completions were uneventful short throws. But one of them was a terrific pass, as he hit Darius Slayton in stride over the middle, with a well-timed pass.
Two reps later, Wilson connected with Slayton again, this time for an excellent deep ball down the sideline. Before that pass, Wilson had managed to gather a high snap.
The play after that was a Wan’Dale Robinson drop, on a short pass to the sideline. Later in practice, Theo Johnson dropped a Wilson throw over the middle. And the play before that was a throwaway, under pressure.
Wilson’s other incomplete ball was a bad throw into traffic over the middle, on a mid-range pass. Dane Belton picked the pass off. After that series of plays, Wilson appeared to discuss the throw with offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who might wind up calling plays in 2025.
Two snaps after the interception, Wilson rallied and hit Johnson — another under-pressure moment in the pocket — for a long catch-and-run touchdown.
So it was a day of mixed results for Wilson. Which is about what you’d expect from a fading veteran at this point in his career.
Ultimately, how Wilson performs in training camp and then early in the season will determine how long Dart stays on the bench.
