Brazil’s media issue their Richarlison verdict as Everton target plays 64 minutes in Carlo…

Everton target Richarlison was in action for the Brazil national team on Thursday night, and the national media has shared how he fared.

After missing out on a large number of games during the 2024/25 campaign, Richarlison may be keen on moving elsewhere to get more regular game time.

Following on from his impressive Europa League win, Everton are linked with Richarlison in what would be a triumphant return to Merseyside for the 28-year-old.

There is no secret that David Moyes wants better attacking options at Everton, especially with the futures of Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking doubtful. Even though his contract is running out, Calvert-Lewin admits he is desperate to play with Richarlison again after they partnered brilliantly during the 2020/21 season.

With Richarlison eager to impress former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti in his first game as manager of Brazil, here is how the media rated his performance against Ecuador.

Richarlison fails to impress for Brazil under Carlo Ancelotti

Richarlison thanked Ancelotti for picking him for the Brazil national team in May, but it is clear that the 28-year-old must do much more to show his former boss why he deserves to be in the squad.

The Spurs attacker was named in the starting XI for the game but seemingly failed to make an impact before being taken off just four minutes after the hour mark.

Media ratings were honest on Richarlison. Brazilian outlet GE gave him a rating of 4.5/10 and said: “A lot of willingness, movement, but little productivity. He was important in the pressure triggers at the beginning of the match, which is little for someone who had to wait so long to return to the National Team.

“He made many technical mistakes and wasted a good chance after Vini Júnior’s play when he drilled in an attempt to finish inside the area. It didn’t work and he has been fasting with the Brazil shirt since the 2022 World Cup.”

GOAL rated Richarlison 5/10, saying: “Fluffed a couple of half chances, completed just nine passes, subbed after an hour.”

Finally, SportsDunia gave Richarlison a rating of 6.1/10, where they said: “The Brazilian had an average game, as he was not a big attacking threat for the Selecao as he had only three touches inside the opposition box.”

Richarlison explains his bizarre pigeon celebration

Richarlison will be in contention to feature in five days when they Brazil host Paraguay. Both he and Ancelotti will be hoping that he puts in a much better performance in comparison to his outing against Ecuador.

If he scores, there is no doubt he will do his iconic pigeon celebration he picked up while he was an Everton player. The celebration has stuck with him for years and is now recognised as his signature move whenever he scores.

In a recent video for Tottenham’s YouTube channel, Richarlison shared the origin of the celebration.

“It was a video when I was on holiday in Rio de Janeiro with my friends. I put the video on YouTube and saw the people doing the dance and decided to do it for my first goal in an Everton shirt.

“So it stayed with me forever and whenever I scored I try to do the pigeon dance, as it’s my trademark.”

With a move to Everton on the cards, fans will be hoping he brings the special celebration back at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
