Middlesbrough need to find a Michael Carrick replacement, and one man with an interest in the job has now spoken out.
Boro sacked Michael Carrick earlier this week after he took the club to a 10th-place finish in the 2024/25 Championship season.
Steve Cooper was top of the list for Middlesbrough, but the ex-Leicester City man has decided he wants to move abroad.
Elsewhere, Rob Edwards is being considered but he has suitors at Bristol City as well, who have also shown an interest in Carrick.
Other names mooted since the former Manchester United man’s dismissal included Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl and Tomasson.

Jon Dahl Tomasson quizzed on becoming Middlesbrough manager
Tomasson had a solid playing career from the early 90s to 2011, which included spells with Newcastle United, AC Milan, and VfB Stuttgart.
He stepped into management in 2013 and up until 2024, was manager of Boro’s Championship rivals, Blackburn Rovers.
Currently, he is the head coach of the Swedish National Team, but we understand Tomasson has applied for the Middlesbrough job.
Now, the ex-Blackburn boss has been quizzed on his interest in replacing Carrick, but he remained coy.
He said, as per Fotbollskanalen: “There are always rumours about things in football. I have a contract with the Swedish Football Association.”
On whether it is possible for him to leave Sweden, he said: “I don’t know, to be honest. Whether it is possible to leave or not. It is not important. I enjoy being here.” “You can never guarantee anything in football.”
