Gabriel Magalhaes signs new long-term contract at Arsenal

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães has signed a new deal with the club. After links to Saudi Arabia, the Brazilian defender has put pen to paper on a new contract extending his stay in North London until 2029.

The extension of Gabriel’s contract is set to be the first of many this summer as Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta look to tie down the club’s best players ahead of the new season.

Gabriel's time at Arsenal

Gabriel was one of Arteta’s first signings at the club, joining the Gunners from French outfit Lille in 2020 for a fee in the region of £27 million.

Scoring on his Premier League debut against Fulham, Gabriel has become one of the most prolific defenders in front of goal since his arrival in England. The centre-back has found the back of the net a staggering 20 times in his 210 Arsenal appearances.

The defender has been out of action since March after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury against Fulham. Arteta will hope Gabriel can stay fit in what he hopes will be a successful 2025/26 campaign.

Arsenal have been able to challenge for the Premier League on several occasions thanks to the partnership that the Brazilian defender and William Saliba have formed at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.

The defender reflected on his time at the club so far: “I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years, I'm so happy and I've learned a lot.

“I'm so proud of myself, it's an amazing journey, and I'm so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.”

Gabriel continued: “Arsenal is an amazing club and I'm so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I'm so proud and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”

The Gunners have recorded the best defensive record in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons.Gabriel spoke about the importance of his partnership with both Saliba and goalkeeper David Raya.

He said*: “It's very, very important, because we work a lot together.*

“It's not only me, only David, or only Willy [Saliba], it's everyone - I'm so happy to be part of this.”
