'I knew'... What Mason Mount spotted from Man Utd ace 'speaks volumes' about player's talent, three things stood out

Mason Mount has revealed that three core qualities make up the “epitome” of one of his Manchester United teammates at Old Trafford after praising the player’s impact.

The 26-year-old former Chelsea ace has struggled to see his playing career at Manchester United take off after his run at the club has been curtailed by injuries.

Mason Mount arrived at Old Trafford in 2023 after the Red Devils splashed an initial £55m transfer fee to sign the ex-Blues star from Premier League side Chelsea.

The current holder of United’s iconic No 7 shirt, Mount only played in 26 matches in an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign and he scored three times for the Red Devils.

Despite his injuries this season, Mount has featured under Ruben Amorim and the United manager is a big fan of using the ex-England star for his tactical system.

Mount has faced criticism and pressure to rediscover his scintillating Chelsea form at United after his struggles over the last two seasons at the Premier League club.

Former Chelsea star Mason Mount makes an eye-opening observation about Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes took home the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award after the 30-year-old Manchester United star’s impact at Old Trafford in the 2024-25 season.

United finished in a disappointing 15th place in the Premier League table, but Fernandes was the standout performer for the club amid their poor run of form.

Fernandes’ latest Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award has put him on a record-tying four wins alongside United legends Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea.

Mason Mount has admitted Fernandes’ desire to keep running, keep fighting and never giving up is at the “epitome” of the United captain’s character.

“I played against him quite a few times, so I knew what a great player he was and what a game-changer he could be,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“It was always difficult to play against him because he’s one that will never stop.

“He’ll keep fighting, keep running, keep tackling. Even when I played against him, I loved that about him… because I want to be able to keep running, keep fighting and never give up, and he’s the epitome of that.”

Mason Mount reveals his experience with Bruno Fernandes after he left Chelsea and completed his transfer to Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes ended last season by scoring 19 times and registering 19 assists in 57 matches across all competitions for Ruben Amorim’s lacklustre Red Devils side.

Mount hailed Fernandes as “unbelievable” for what he did for him after his transfer and talked up the Portugal international’s ability as a leader and as a captain.

“When I joined the club, he was unbelievable,” he continued.

“I got on so well with him from the get-go. He’s the club captain, so he leads by example on the pitch, off the pitch.

“He’s a top, top man. It’s very special to have him and what he’s been able to do this season – score goals, get assists – when times have been difficult just speaks volumes about what he is.”

Fernandes has linked up with his Portugal teammates this month and the United midfielder is representing the national team in their Nations League campaign.
