“It definitely has Sheffield United/Brentford vibes.” (opinion)

As with every year, there are always going to be people who love the new home shirt and people who hate it, as has been seen since City revealed their new home kit last night, and it has been described as having “Sheffield United/Brentford vibes” by one member.

I’m not that fussed what it looks like, I just want to see results on the pitch, as we all do. I was given a huge collection of Lincoln City shirts by a friend several years ago, so I just wear them instead and save myself some money each year.

As expected, plenty of views have been shared on our 100% Imps forum since the release, some of which you can find below!

Gaz_Imp: *“Like it, and love the reference to George Boole.*“

SwinImp: “I bet ruining a Lincoln City kit with some numbers plastered all down the front is everything George Boole would have wanted.

I could deal with numbers on the white stripes underneath the arms, on a sleeve, or the collar, but straight down the front? Shocking decision. I can’t actually believe the FAB let that happen.

Take the numbers off and it’s a nice kit.”

Luke Imp: “I don’t envy anyone who has input in football shirt designs up and down the country. The main ones will always be the home version and they’re always going to be a certain colour(s) and patterns so there’s little you can do when you’re changing them year to year!”

Chesterimp: “As others have said, acknowledging the commercial reasons for a new shirt each season, it must be difficult to come up with new variations on red and white stripes.

So this is a fairly good variation and the binary code Boolean link and inspired connection with a piece of the City’s history I’ll expect not many of us knew about.”

FulwoodImp: “Although I’d like plain stripes front and back, I guess it plays havoc with sponsors’ logos and players’ numbers. I can remember these & players’ names being mounted on yellow panels, shields and all sorts which never looked right.

The plain red back allows for simple white numbers and lettering.

So many clubs shirts are ruined by naff-looking sponsors’ logos with inappropriately clashing colours. Far better if the sponsors flex their visual standards to allow the logos to look integral to the shirt design. Branston are nearly there…

Overall, I think the new kit strikes a good balance and looks great!”

The Football Club have also responded to any suggestions that the back of the shirt should be red and white stripes:

LincolnCityOfficial: “Thank you to everyone who has joined in the discussion around our home kit launch. The interest and debate has been fantastic.

For those who would like to see stripes on the back, EFL regulations say the back of shirts must be plain to allow numbers to be picked out.”

Rasenimp: “I think it looks pretty smart and prefer it to last season. The black trim has gained slightly more positive connotations for me because of 16/17, and the collar doesn’t look entirely different.

I still accept the challenges around sponsors, and I’m still glad it’s not a terrible betting company, but I do think each home kit we’ve had would look better if the Branston logo didn’t have to have a splash of green in it, but it does look better this year. The Peregrine sponsor on all three kits and the University of Lincoln on last year’s away were the dream…

But I think they’ve done a decent job this season, and I don’t hate the little extra touches to it while looking like a Lincoln kit.”

The Imposter: *“I quite like it, but it definitely has Sheffield United/Brentford vibes, with the black trim. Nice looking collar, though. Not sure about the binary numbers myself, that feels a bit gimmicky (and paying tribute to someone the vast majority of Lincoln fans have never heard of is a little strange, even though the chap was from the city itself).*“
