Jannik Vestergaard says he’s going nowhere – Wants to drag Leicester City out of Championship

Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has insisted he won’t be knocking on the door to leave the club this summer, just because the club are in the Championship.

[He’s been speaking to Ekstra Bladet](https://ekstrabladet.dk/) about his situation and insisted he’s determined to remain at Leicester and help them get back to the Premier League.

The defender finds himself facing a season back in the Championship once again after a miserable campaign for the Foxes last year ended up in relegation once again.

He finds himself in an awkward position, having fallen out of favour under Ruud van Nistelrooy. He used the Danish defender until the end of February, but he hasn’t been on the pitch or in the squad since then.

That’s a situation Vestergaard is accustomed to having fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers during his time at the club.

That ultimately led to him trying to force an exit, but he ended up remaining and was a key player under Enzo Maresca when they returned back to the Premier League.

Now he has a decision to make but insists there will be no attempts to force through a Leicester exit on this occasion.

_“In the situation I have found myself in, I have tried to park my ego,”_ he said.

_“I did not want to cause a stir, because there have been things that were more important than me personally. My intention was in no way to create a bad atmosphere._

_“That’s why I’ve also trained well, been there for my teammates and done what I could to help the club. I haven’t heard anything else from Leicester, so I expect to continue. Not least in light of the fact that I have two years left on my contract,_

_“My focus is on the fact that I have two years and will do everything to help the club back to the Premier League. If the club wants something different at some point, they must say so. It is the club that must make those kinds of decisions._

_“If the club wants something different, it is up to them. And we have not had that conversation. That’s why my focus is to help the club back into the Premier League.”_
