Iceland striker Albert Gudmundsson has stated it is his desire to play in the Premier League amid reports linking him to Everton. The 27-year-old scored six goals in 24 Serie A appearances during an injury-hit season with Fiorentina, where he was on loan from Genoa.

La Viola can make the move permanent but are currently without a manager, leading to uncertainty over his future. And according to The i, Gudmundsson is on the radar of Blues boss David Moyes, who once gave his dad, Gudmundur Benediktsson, a trial while he was manager at Preston North End.

The forward is the fourth generation of his family to play and score for Iceland and his great-grandfather, also Albert Gudmundsson, played for Arsenal.

Speaking to The i, ahead of Iceland’s fixture with Scotland, he said: “I wouldn’t say I am trying to copy his career or anything – I don’t want to play in England or in France because he played there.

“I like the Premier League a lot, that’s why I want to play there. It is about my own path.”

Moyes is keen to strengthen Everton's attacking line-up this summer and has already added Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent deal and pursued Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, who instead chose to move to Chelsea.

Moyes wants to look at the support network behind a striker and Gudmundsson's ability to play off a frontman or in attacking midfield could take him under the Scot's consideration.

Gudmundsson said he is open to remaining in Florence but is yet to learn whether the club feels the same way.

On his future, he said: “I could see myself staying for longer, but that is not in my hands. It is up to them to decide whether they keep me or not.

“You are aware of the interest, I read the news just like every other football fan, because I am one. Some of it is total bulls**t, some of it is true. But I don’t get my hopes up until anything is concrete.

“The Premier League is definitely something that interests me. It is the best league in the world. Hopefully one day I will be playing there.

“It is just the tempo and the pace, how fast the game goes. All the stadiums are full, the fans are very close to the pitch and you can feel the atmosphere even watching the games on TV.

“Everyone can beat everyone at some point, it is so unpredictable, so that makes it an amazing league.”
