Newcastle United have announced their retained list ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
The Magpies have announced their retained list ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League, confirming defensive duo Jamal Lewis and Lloyd Kelly will officially depart on June 30.
There is also confirmation of a new one-year contract for Mark Gillespie, though, like Wilson, the club are still in discussions regarding a potential new deal for veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy.
Newcastle United still in contract talks with Callum Wilson
Wilson is out of contract at the end of this month and appeared to bid an emotional farewell after the final game of the campaign against Everton just under a fortnight ago.
The 33-year-old has scored 49 goals in 130 appearances since joining from AFC Bournemouth in 2020 for £20millio but has endured a frustrating season with injuries, restricting him to just three starts. His only goal came in the FA Cup fourth round win away to Birmingham City, while his last Premier League goal was over a year ago in May 2024.
Wilson’s limited appearances means he did not automatically trigger a one-year extension. Newcastle have also passed up the option, instead entering talks over an incentive-based contract.
“We're going to sit down and talk with his representatives,” Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirmed last month. “What I can say is Callum Wilson is and has been just an incredible footballer for Newcastle, someone who epitomises the spirit that's got us to where we are. Really professional, brave. I mean, to come here and be the number nine in the manner and the moment that he did in the club's history, it was a difficult moment.

“The club needed hope and Callum gave them hope. He led the line with that responsibility and the pressure that that role brings unbelievably well. He brings a positivity to the group, he's a leader within the changing room. He's just been incredible and let's wait and see what happens.”
Newcastle United confirm double departure
In terms of outgoings, Newcastle have confirmed Kelly will complete a permanent move to Juventus. The 26-year-old only joined the Magpies last summer but after making just 14 appearances was loaned to the Italian giants in January.
The loan agreement included a £20m obligation to buy, which was triggered when Kelly played a certain number of games.
Meanwhile, Lewis will leave upon the expiry of his contract. The Northern Ireland international first moved to St James’ Park in the summer 2020 and went on to make 36 appearances.
The left-back spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Championship side Watford before joining Brazilian giants Sao Paulo on loan in September. However, he returned to Tyneside in January after requiring surgery on his ankle.
“Newcastle United extends a sincere thank you to all players leaving the club this summer and wishes them the best for the next step in their careers,” the club statement said.
