Lamine Yamal’s extraordinary performance in Spain’s thrilling 5-4 victory over France in the Nations League semi-final has sparked a wave of praise from across the footballing world.
The 17-year-old Barcelona forward scored twice in the match easily overshadowing stars like Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe, further solidifying his status as one of the game’s most exciting young talents.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente did not hold back in his assessment of Yamal’s impact.
“He has made a statement. He is the best player in the world and, in my opinion, absolutely deserves the Ballon d’Or,” said the manager, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Yamal’s teammates are equally convinced of his exceptional quality. Nico Williams, who played alongside him against France, echoed the Ballon d’Or sentiment.

“He has to keep working with the same humility he has always shown, and I hope Lamine wins the Ballon d’Or,” said Williams in a post-match interview with Teledeporte (h/t MD).
Rafael Louzan, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), also joined in the chorus of admiration.
Speaking to RTVE (h/t MD), Louzan remarked: “It became clear – not just because of the two goals – but because of the brilliant match he played. Everything he does is impressive.
“He is already established as a great player and still has so much ahead of him. I hope he is given the Ballon d’Or, he deserves it.”
At just 17, Lamine Yamal continues to exceed expectations on the biggest stages. With a Nations League final ahead and the support of his teammates, coaches, and the RFEF leaders behind him, the call for Ballon d’Or is growing louder.
