Indianapolis Colts fans rejoiced when the team selected Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Richardson was a prospect with a lot of upside, both as a rusher and as a passer, and people expected great things from him the moment he came into the league.
When healthy, Richardson has demonstrated some of that talent that people saw on tape, but being on the field has been his biggest detriment.
Richardson had shoulder surgery during his rookie campaign, sitting out for the entire season after putting a few high-quality starts together.
The team believed he would hit the ground running in Year 2 after his injury, but that hasn’t necessarily been the case thus far.
He was able to start 11 games last year, but his shoulder injuries prohibited his ability to perform to the best of his abilities.
Fans were looking forward to seeing what he could do under center in 2025, but his ability to play has already been called into question.
As the NFL on ESPN pointed out on X, Richardson’s shoulder is, once again, injured, and his timetable for return is undetermined.

This could not be worse for the Colts and their fans, who have been desperately hoping for this team to turn the corner, to take the next step as an organization.
They need some stability under center, which Richardson has not been able to provide in his first two seasons, and it’s not looking great for him to make that happen in Year 3, either.
Indianapolis might have to start looking for another option soon, whether it’s in next year’s draft or finding a diamond in the rough with who they already have on the roster.
