Report: Champions League club want to sign an ‘incredible’ Wolves star

Wolves have already experienced chaos at the start of the summer transfer window, with Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri at the centre of it.

Matheus Cunha completed his Manchester United transfer last weekend after months of speculation, and Rayan Ait-Nouri is the next to join him in leaving Molineux.

Ait-Nouri is set for his Manchester City medical this weekend after agreeing a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 24-year-old will depart Wolves following a successful half-decade at the club, where he’s developed into one of the Premier League’s best wing-backs.

The Algerian will get to experience Champions League football under Pep Guardiola in 2025/26, and there’s someone else who could join him in that competition.

Marseille are in talks to sign Nelson Semedo

Wolves fans are preparing to wave goodbye to captain Nelson Semedo, who has been a terrific servant since joining the club in 2020.

The 31-year-old sees his contract expire this month, and although Wolves have offered Semedo a four-year contract, the Portuguese full-back is still assessing his options.

Speaking after Portugal’s win over Germany in the UEFA Nations League, Semedo offered an update on his Wolves future, where he claimed he’s still deciding what is best for him and his family.

But as his time in Wolverhampton begins to evaporate, interest in his signature has intensified. Semedo would be open to a Benfica return, but he’s also caught the eye of Manchester United and Galatasaray among others.

Now, Foot Mercato have reported that Champions League side Marseille have held talks with the defender, even after Wolves have offered him a ‘significant salary increase’.

Marseille qualified for Europe’s elite competition with a second-place finish in Ligue 1, and that could be one major factor in his decision.

The chance to play in the Champions League is something the ‘incredible’ Semedo surely won’t let pass him by, as he’s previously shared his ambitions of reaching that competition with Wolves.

After watching former manager Nuno Espirito Santo challenge for the top five last term, Semedo wanted Wolves to aim for Europe next season.

“Yes, Nottingham are doing really well and are one of the examples that you said, they are fighting for the Champions League places,” the right-back said.

“Why can’t we do that as well? We just have to make sure that we do the things well, as a group of football players, as a staff, do the right things to make sure that we put the club in the level where we want it to be.”

With Semedo approaching the final years of his career, signing a long-term contract at Wolves could prevent him from playing in the Champions League, which explains why it’s such a big decision.
