“The biggest impact was it changed my mindset”- We Are City in the Community: Elisa’s story

Each month, Manchester City’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC), spotlights its work and programmes through the voices and stories of its participants.

This month CITC spoke to Elisa, who was part of the Premier League Inspires programme back in 2019. Since her time on the programme Elisa has gone on to study criminology at university, which she does not believe would have been possible without the help she received in school from CITC.

Speaking about her time in school, Elisa said: “The biggest impact was it changed your mindset. The way they implemented the sports and well-being theme in your life, it was very motivating for me”.

Elisa also went on to describe how the programme impacted her future.

“I don’t think I would have gone to university never mind study criminology.

“I had very different aspirations. I was good in school, I really enjoyed doing it, but I didn’t see myself carrying on.

“But just seeing the way the coaches acted towards us, how they treated us and how much they helped, by the end of it, I was like, I need to do something with my life and give back.”

City Inspires is an educational programme, partnered with the Premier League, and delivered in schools across Greater Manchester.

The programme works with groups of secondary school learners who are at risk of not reaching their potential and support them as they move through the education system and early adulthood, giving them the confidence, resilience and skills to succeed.
