Manchester United are looking to return themselves to a place of power in the Premier League after a difficult 2024/25 season.
Unsurprisingly, a change of personnel is the only way that United can elicit a turning of fortunes for the Reds. That business has already started early doors in the summer transfer window as Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liam Delap, United's other key target, may have chosen to join Chelsea but the Reds have quickly moved on to another option in Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian's teammates have already suggested that he is likely to leave this summer and Ruben Amorim's men are firmly in the driving seat.
An initial £55m bid was rejected by the Bees but talks remain ongoing and there is confidence that a deal could be done. If this does get completed, it would be seen as a coup considering how highly he is regarded in the Premier League.
Back in January when Liverpool were linked with replacing Mohamed Salah with Mbeumo, Jamie Carragher explained why the winger by trade was a natural replacement for the Egyptian. "You feel with Brentford signings or Brighton because they're ahead of the game, everyone is always a little bit: 'What do they know that we missed," he told Sky Sports.
"I think of my old club with the situation regarding Mohamed Salah, a left-footed player on the right side, who can fit the bill? He [Mbeumo] is someone whose name that always crops up because of his ability and the club he is at.
"The things they look at are probably similar to Liverpool. Huge fan of his, [he is a] huge problem and he caused Liverpool huge problems last weekend." After a campaign where the Reds struggled for goals, Mbeumo was firing them in for Brentford as they adapted to life without Ivan Toney.

His 20 goals this season would be huge for United next year if he can translate his form in the capital to the north west. Under Amorim, Mbeumo will likely be used in a central role as opposed to out on the right side, his natural position, but he does have experience playing down the middle which should reassure supporters.
