Manchester United are prepared to make a final take-it-or-leave-it offer for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

Ruben Amorim is eager to sign the forward who netted 20 Premier League goals last season and bring him to Old Trafford alongside Matheus Cunha as part of his rebuild.

Finalising personal terms is unlikely to be a problem with Mbeumo opting for a move to the red half of Manchester despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United – two clubs that can offer Champions League football next season.

A deal reportedly worth around £200,000-a-week is thought to be agreed but Brentford rejected United’s opening offer this week.

An initial bid of worth £45million plus £10million in add-ons was knocked back by the Bees. But United have increased their offer, one worth more than £60million.

That offer may be enough to tempt Brentford into doing business, asking for a fee similar to the one United paid Wolves for Cunha having activated his £62.5m release clause.

The Mirror report this is likely to be United’s final offer however, suggesting they may move onto other targets if no deal is struck.

United scored a pitiful 44 goals in 38 league matches last season with only Everton and the three relegated clubs scoring less.

Rasmus Hojlund, who is open to a move to Inter Milan this summer, managed just four in 32 Premier League appearances with Joshua Zirkzee managing three in 32.

Cunha and Mbeumo scored 35 league goals with only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland outscoring the Brentford star.

‘They need players who are going to come in and hit the ground running,’ United legend Gary Neville said.

‘United has become a very difficult place for new signings to operate in recent years. Cunha and Mbeumo have Premier League experience, they’ve got plenty of games under their belts, it’s not new to them.

‘They’re the right type as well because when I watch the United wide players under Ruben Amorim, they have to get from box-to-box quickly and travel with and without the ball quickly.

‘Cunha and Mbeumo both do that. The players who are going to leave United are more jinkers and play in smaller spaces.

‘Amorim likes having those two players behind the striker and if those two are Cunha and Mbeumo then United will at least be able to travel quickly because they can both run and they’re both direct.

‘It’s important that Manchester United have that. They need players in those positions because it looks like Rashford, Sancho, Antony and Garnacho are going to leave.’
