Barry Sanders to star in A&E documentary which has nothing to do with football

Detroit Lions Hall of Fame running back, Barry Sanders, is starring in an upcoming documentary on A&E, but it has nothing to do with football.

Sanders, 56, will talk about a [heart-related health issue](https://www.mlive.com/lions/2024/06/barry-sanders-experienced-heart-related-scare-on-fathers-day-weekend.html) he had last June in, “[The Making of a Heart Attack](https://www.aetv.com/specials/the-making-of-a-heart-attack),” premiering on Saturday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. on A&E.

In the documentary, Sanders talks about his heart issue over Father’s Day weekend as he brings together four other people who faced a heart attack or stroke to uncover the hidden risks, lasting impacts and what they want others to know.

Last year, Sanders did not reveal any specifics about his condition. He may shed some light on exactly what happened to him in the documentary. Here is what Sanders said last year at the time.

“I experienced a health scare related to my heart. It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we feel fine. I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for providing me with the needed care.”

The A&E documentary aims to bring awareness to heart attack and stroke symptoms.

“Their powerful stories reveal how these events can happen when you least expect it, caused by factors like genetics, lifestyle which can lead to high “bad” cholesterol (also known as LDL-C), “A&E wrote. ”Because when it comes to cardiovascular disease, recognizing the risks is the first step to taking action."

The Detroit Lions retired Sanders’ No. 20 jersey in 2004, the same year he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
