Lille star wants Manchester United transfer

Manchester United’s right-back situation continues to be an open question this summer, with Ruben Amorim yet to settle on his preferred long-term option.

Despite Diogo Dalot having nailed down the right-back spot, there remains talk of potential upgrades or additions in the position.

Dalot picked up an injury in April, which could push United to seek reinforcements if that is to happen again next season.

United are still actively reshaping their squad with a clear-out underway and several experienced targets being monitored, including players who bring versatility and leadership.

Amorim has publicly stated he wants a team of players who “want to be at Manchester United” – a sentiment that resonates deeply with one particular name.

That name is Thomas Meunier, and he wants it more than most.

Lille right-back Thomas Meunier has once again declared his love for Manchester United, in an interview where he even joked he’d cycle to Old Trafford if they ever came calling.

Speaking to Gazet van Antwerpen, the 33-year-old didn’t hold back when talking about his dream to wear the United shirt.

“If they ever ask me, I’ll cycle there. (laughs),” said Meunier.

“But maybe it’s better this way. Suppose I play there and have a bad time.

“I wouldn’t want to hate Manchester United, because I love that club so much.”

Thomas Meunier and his passion for United runs deep, with the Belgian international revealing he recently attended a match as a fan.

“I went to watch them a few weeks ago, against Bilbao.

“In with the fans, singing, à fond (fully). Je suis un vrai. (I am a real one). I go to watch them at least once every season.”

Meunier’s admiration for the club is longstanding – he’s expressed his desire to join United as far back as 2019 and again in 2022, when he insisted he could never say no if they came for him.

“I’ve seen so many of their home games over the years,” he added.

“But of all the home games I’ve seen in all those years, they’ve only won two.

“You have to have a self cruelty side to be a United supporter, right?”

While a move seems unlikely given his age and United’s current recruitment focus, Meunier’s love for the Red Devils makes him a unique and passionate figure among Europe’s footballers – a fan first, and a player always willing to answer the call.
